Hiking in Tettegouche State Park, Minnesota, early Oct. '22

This is part 2 of my fall trip to northern Minnesota. For part 1 see this post: https://soulcenteredphotography.blogspot.com/2022/10/oberg-mountain-and-marshall-mountain.html

I was fortunate to stay at a friend's cabin close to Tettegouche State park. The day started out with soft blues and pinks and a calm lake with beautiful reflections. And it ended with a gorgeous sunset and amazing clouds reflecting in the calm water.

I decided to go for a hike in the lesser known parts of the park. In the 6-7 hours (probably 12-15 miles) I only met 8 people! The day before I was at the popular Oberg Mountain loop near Lutsen and the amount of people there was almost overwhelming.

This turned out to be one of the most enjoyable hikes I have done in a long time (except for getting a blister on my foot)! I stopped at several overlooks with amazing views and just walking on the trails in a golden forest made me feel like being in an enchanted world! And Shanti of course had a great time and would have walked a few more miles! It was enough for me, though!

We came by Tettegouche Lake, had a picnic at Nipisiquit lake and explored the Tettegouche Camp at Mic Mac Lake. The Camp consists of 4 rustic cabins that can be rented but you have to hike in (a 1.7 mile distance) and bring your own food and bedding. It certainly is a very peaceful place to spend a few days.

Sunny Winter Days

We have had a good number of sunny days with brilliant sunlight, blue skies and cold temperatures. Typically I go for a walk with my dog, Shanti, in the middle of the day. Not the best time to take photos but I find in the winter it works quite well.

I focus more on shapes, contrasts of light and shadows. And I love to include a sunburst or star whenever possible. On one of the days I got lucky with clouds in the sky adding another dynamic element to the composition. Also blue and white/yellow are two colors that I am very drawn to.

Enjoy this selection of my sunny winter days taken at various locations in northern Wisconsin: Audie Lake in the Blue Hills and the Flambeau river and forest.

Stay warm and thanks for viewing - Susanne

Chronicles of Shanti, part 5 - growing up fast

Wow, Shanti is growing up so, so fast!! These photos are from the whole month of October. He weighed 26 pounds at the beginning and close to 40 pounds at the end of the month. And he was the runt of the litter, so it will be interesting to see how big he ends up to be.

Regardless, he is a very good puppy and sometimes not so good.

We are going on a lot of walks/hikes and he still enjoys going into water up to his chest, even at the colder temperatures we are having now.

He learned to shake his paw in half a day and now he can't stop doing it! Now we are working on the Stay and Come command but he doesn't quite get it yet.

And all of a sudden he started to fetch his ball and brings it back! yeah! Maybe he was just too young when I tried it earlier.

We went to the Vet when he was 17 weeks old for his rabies shot. He was 35 lbs then (Oct. 26.) . The Vet said he is doing great!

The cats have learned to live with him and everything is almost back to the old routine except they have to jump up on the dryer to get to their food.

Of course he gets spoiled with new (old) toys to chew on and plenty of treats!

Every day is a new adventure and I am so glad for Shanti's company.

If you are on Instagram you can follow him there #shanticreamgolden

Enjoy, Susanne
