Fall trip up North with puppy Shanti, part 1

Fall is my favorite time of the year and I am always looking forward to go on our annual fall trip to the north shore of Lake Superior by the end of September.

It was Shanti's first camping trip and I wasn't sure how he would behave but he did really well! My friend Bill has a camper on his truck and we all managed to live together. Shanti loves to travel and was quite content on the back seat of the truck.

We spent the first night at a friend's cabin near Finland, Minnesota. The stars and the milky way were shining bright and I was able to get a few photos from the dock.

In the morning we were greeted with a peaceful and serene mood - fog was floating across the lake's surface and the light of the rising sun lit up the forest on the shoreline across. Shanti was laying on the dock and enjoying the scenery - he was so content.

We weren't able to go for long hikes with a 13 week old puppy. We decided to check out Marshall Mountain at the Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning center near Finland. We had been there 3 years ago and it was one of my best autumn hikes ever! Surprisingly the fall colors were already past peak but there were still pockets of nice colors. It is a short but steep hike and Shanti needed help getting up some steps. He put his nose twice into a wasp nest in the ground! Poor puppy, he got stung and was not happy, but quickly recovered.

The views from top of the mountain were breathtaking! and worth all the effort.

After a nice break we walked back and headed to our campsite at the Temperance River State park.
