Fall colors in the Blue Hills, end of September 2023

The weather turned overcast with fog, rain, wind on the day I returned from my short fall trip to the north shore of Lake Superior (see my previous blog: https://soulcenteredphotography.blogspot.com/2023/09/fall-colors-arrived-early-september-2023.html ) . This pattern lasted 10 days!! and it was exactly at the peak of the fall colors in our area (northern Wisconsin).

Needless to say I didn't get out much to take photos. Though fog and cloudy days can create some beautiful moods and saturated colors, I did miss the brilliance of sunlight shining through the trees and adding that special sparkling moment.

I did go on a trip north to Iron County to explore some new locations. I am working on a separate blog on that.

The following photos were taken from September 23.-29. 2023 in my neighborhood (Rusk County). The color patterns were unusual this year - orange, red maple trees on one side of the road whereas the same trees were still green on the other side!!

A truly magical moment happened on the morning of September 29. I noticed an orange/golden glow outside right around sunrise. The whole forest was illuminated in this unusual light. It only lasted 3-5 minutes and I quickly took a few photos of my driveway. Wow!

We had a lot of wind and rain that blew off the beautiful leaves way too fast.

Enjoy the fleeting moments of beauty seen through my camera lens. Thanks for viewing. Susanne

First Snowfall of the season, October 14. 2022

We had our first snow fall of the season on October 14.

I spent the morning driving through the Blue Hills, taking photos at various locations. It was quite pretty with the yellow fall foliage  and the white snow.

I remembered 3 years ago we had an early snow fall and I looked up the date: it was on October 13. 2019. It is fun to go back and look at those photos. We had a little more color yet in that year. I included 4 photos at the end from 2019. The very last image happens to be the cover photo for my 2023 Wisconsin wall calendar.

If you are interested in a calendar you can contact me: susanne@brucetel.net or order one at my Etsy shop. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1280244862/wall-calendar-2023-northern-wisconsin

Enjoy, Susanne

Juniper Rock and Lovers Lane, Sept. & Oct. '22

A few photos from this year's autumn in northern Wisconsin.
I made 2 trips to Juniper Rock, an overlook along the North Country Trail in Ashland County. It's one of my favorite spots to visit in the fall.
On September 27th the colors were just starting to change, somewhat late for our area. But there were pockets of colors here and there. Driving through the endless miles of forest I came across a road called "Lovers Lane" where the trees are tall and touching each other - what an appropriate name! Mostly Maple trees, they were still green. So I knew I wanted to come back later in the season.
I also stopped at Morgan Falls and was surprised to see such a low water level. This allowed me to take photos of the falls from a different angle.

The second trip to Juniper Rock was on October 6th, on my way back from visiting northern Minnesota. It was raining a little while I was there and the fall colors were very vibrant. The wind had already knocked off a lot of leaves.
Next stop was Lovers Lane again - I was anticipating a golden tunnel but to my surprise there was still a lot of green.
I enjoyed my time in the colorful forest of northern Wisconsin. As I am typing this on October 14th we are having the first snow of the season accumulating outside.

Enjoy, Susanne
